Secondary Analysis Spotlight: Leveraging the Data Hub for Health Equity Research with Dr. Amanda Janitz | 09/04/2025
The Data Hub empowers researchers to discover, access, and analyze datasets for secondary use by providing access to de-identified data and cloud-based tools.By streamlining access to valuable research resources, the Data Hub accelerates scientific discovery while maximizing the utility of existing data. Secondary analysis, with the help of the Hub, enables researchers to generate new knowledge, test innovative hypotheses, answer research questions, and advance their fields without the time and resource constraints of primary data collection.
Dr. Amanda Janitz's recent work exemplifies secondary analysis use and potential. Dr. Janitz utilized RADx-UP data and the Data Hub to identify challenges to healthcare access among American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) populations with chronic health conditions. She was awarded the NIH's Exploratory/Developmental Grant (R21).
Results from her study, Challenges Faced by American Indian Population Compared to White Population in Chronic Illness Treatment, were presented at the 2025 Graduate Research Education and Technology (GREAT) Symposium at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center (OUHSC).
Initial analyses showed that AI/AN participants had a higher prevalence of challenges in getting medications, transportation, and getting needed healthcare compared to White participants. Findings like these are important and may contribute to new public health strategies, strengthening health system preparedness. Dr. Janitz and her team are continuing to analyze these data to evaluate challenges accessing healthcare among AI/AN participants with specific chronic health conditions.
This research demonstrates the Data Hub's mission to help researchers discover, access, and analyze data that lead to discoveries. By providing access to rich datasets and powerful analytical tools, the Data Hub enables researchers to focus their energy on generating insights. Data within the Hub is always de-identified and robust enough to facilitate efficient exploration of new research questions. Dr. Janitz’s work highlights the power of secondary research, enabling researchers to develop equitable and impactful public health solutions.
